Koshika Krishna and Vedant Shukla at SEHER have launched a fundraiser in collaboration with Aanchal Narang a Mumbai based psychologist for URJA NGO that runs shelter homes for young women in Bombay as well. We are raising funds to help them sustain their efforts through the Covid-19 crisis.
The gendered effects of Covid-19 are acute and vast. One of these is the rising cases of domestic violence across the world.
In Hubei province, the heart of the initial coronavirus outbreak, domestic violence reports to police more than tripled in one county alone during the lockdown.
In India the National Commission for Women (NCW) has said that they are receiving more complaints since the lockdown began on March 24th. So far they have received over 58 email complaints and are anticipating a lot more to reach them soon by post.
Shelter homes run by NGOs such as URJA provide such women and children with access to safe accommodation.
